Ben Zakkai Institute as Part of JADE

What to Expect as a Ben Zakkai Attendee

We are excited that the Ben Zakkai Institute has expanded the JADE suite of Jewish end-of-life learning opportunities by joining JADE.

If you have attended Ben Zakkai Institute programming in the past , you will recognize and appreciate the continued focus on text-based scholarly discussion, exploration, and learning together that pervades these programs. All of that continues as the Institute expands its audience by becoming part of the JADE community.

A visual difference that some past attendees might notice is the layout of the JADE event schedule display. The content for all of the previous and current Ben Zakkai programs is preserved and available through the JADE Events Schedule page. A second difference is that we no longer require the entry of Access Codes to view recordings and handouts. All recordings, speaker intro videos, handouts and source sheets are now available immediately by clicking on an event.

The default display in the JADE events schedule is a grid view of event listings, however, for a more direct visual comparison here, we have selected “Quick List” in the Display Options to show you a list on the left and a list on the right; with the previous Ben Zakkai website approach on the left below, and the current JADE events quick list format on the right.

In the Ben Zakkai website, to display event information, clicking the Details link displays the information inline. In the JADE display, clicking anywhere on an event item displays a popup window showing the details for that event, including buttons that link to teacher preview videos, recordings, registration, handouts, related Hineni topics, and related stories. You can see the inline Ben Zakkai website display on the left, and the JADE event details popup on the right below. In the JADE popup, note the buttons at the bottom of the screen. (The speaker bio(s) appear in the popup below what is shown here.)

By default we list all upcoming events , but at the bottom of the page is an Options button to change what is displayed – which events are included, for what time frame, and in what format. You can also save your favorite view so it will come up automatically every time you view the schedule. The image below shows the Display Options popup. If needed, a quick orientation to the options selections is shown if you click on the Quick Overview of Display Options button on the right.
